Despite mixed reviews from critics, the Michael Jackson biopic, “Michael” is proving that there is no black or white when it comes to the love for the King of Pop, as it amasses a record-smashing three-day opening number.

The movie, starring Michael’s nephew Jaafar Jackson as the titular legend, made an opening number of USD 97 million in the US, and USD 120.4 million internationally, bringing a total of USD 217.4 million.
This means that the movie is now the biggest US opening of all time for biopics, surpassing that of Christopher Nolan’s “Oppenheimer,” which opened at USD 80 million back in 2023. It also bested “Bohemian Rhapsody” record as the biggest opening for a music biopic.

The movie, helmed by Antoine Fuqua, is also Lionsgate’s best debut since the pandemic.
On the other hand, in second place, “The Super Mario Galaxy Movie” is heading towards the billion-dollar club, as it has now made a global total of USD 871 million since its release on 1 April.
