The suburb of Bandar Teknologi Kajang, Malaysia was angered when a video surfaced showing a highly provocative act at a food stall. The footage captured two men carrying and placing pig’s heads at a prata or ‘roti canai’ counter, sparking outrage among the community.
Authorities acted swiftly to detain two suspects in connection with the incident. Both men are aged 35 and 51.
CCTV Footage Unveils Troubling Behaviour
Based on the footage, the incident occurred on October 11, 2024, around 7.30 PM, when two men entered the eatery, wearing black shirts and helmets. The CCTV footage, which was posted by @/update11111 on X has since gone viral.
The footage revealed the men taking two pigs’ heads out of plastic bags and placing them on the cooking counter. 
Soon after, one of them was also seen pouring what looked like the remaining blood from the pigs’ heads onto the counter. They then left the area.
After leaving the area, they returned shortly afterward to retrieve the pigs’ heads.
They left again, came back without the pigs’ heads, and finally left the scene.
Following this, an 18-year-old worker who witnessed the act on the CCTV filed a police report that evening.
Prompt Action by Authorities
Following the report, Kajang District Police, led by Assistant Commissioner Nazron Abd Yusof, launched an investigation, as reported by NST.
The men were arrested four days later on October 15. “The case is being probed under Section 298/427 of the Penal Code for insulting a religion and causing damage, respectively,” Assistant Commissioner Nazron confirmed.
The law provides penalties including imprisonment for up to two years, fines, or both upon conviction.
Ongoing Investigations
The incident has not only sparked anger but also raised questions about their motives.
The placing of pigs’ heads, a significant symbol in various cultural contexts. This is especially in predominantly Muslim Malaysia, where pigs are considered impure, was seen as a deliberate act of provocation.
As of now, investigations are ongoing, with authorities calling for public assistance to gather more information. Sergeant Ahmad Faizal Hasan, the investigating officer, has urged anyone with details to come forward.
Legal and Cultural Implications
This act falls under serious criminal categories. Section 298 of the Penal Code addresses insulting a religion, highlighting the sensitivity surrounding religious and cultural symbols in Malaysia. Section 427 deals with acts of mischief causing damage.
This dual investigation reflects both the cultural offense and the impact on the business.
The Community’s Response
Comments from netizens under the video flooded with mixed reactions.
One user pointed out the provocative nature of the act, emphasizing the awareness of CCTV cameras stating, “They know there are CCTV cameras there. They really intend to provoke.”
Another commenter expressed their weariness stating,
“I’m fed up with these people trying to disrupt the country. They never stop playing the same old sentiments, like putting pigs in restaurants or at mosques. Don’t they have any other ideas? Just arrest these groups and throw them in jail. Give them the maximum prison sentence. Only then will they understand the meaning of regret.”
One user emphasized the cruelty of the act, remarking, “How cruel! They even placed it on the counter where the roti canai is prepared.”
While a separate voice in the comments addressed hygiene and food safety, expressing concern about the state of food stalls.
“On another note, vendors should not leave their food stalls and cooking pots exposed like that. You often see stalls just left unattended. Sometimes, cats or other animals roam freely up there. The next day, the owner just comes to clean it up like that.”
