A Singaporean man who goes by @/dondondon2802 on Tiktok recently documented his journey walking from the westernmost point of Singapore, Tuas Checkpoint, to Changi Airport in the east.
His trek, which took approximately 13 hours and 50 minutes, covered a total of 78,000 steps.
The challenge tested his endurance and provided a unique perspective on Singapore’s diverse neighborhoods, infrastructure, and pedestrian accessibility.
A Long Trek Across the Island
The journey began at Tuas Checkpoint and took two hours to reach Joo Koon, highlighting the vast size of the Tuas area. The industrial nature of Tuas meant long, open roads with minimal shade.
From there, he continued walking to Pioneer in 50 minutes, followed by another hour and 20 minutes to Chinese Garden, passing residential and commercial areas along the way.
From Shopping Hubs to Bustling Streets
After stopping at Jem for a meal at Burger King, he resumed his walk towards Holland Road, which took an additional one hour and 50 minutes. The route transitioned from urban shopping districts to quieter residential areas.
From Holland Road, he proceeded to Orchard Road, making a quick restroom stop at Tanglin Mall, before reaching Chijmes in 40 minutes.
The city’s vibrant nightlife and historic architecture provided a refreshing change in scenery.
The Final Stretch to Changi Airport
From Chijmes, he took 20 minutes to reach Millenia Walk, before heading to the East Coast Park Connector in 40 minutes, including a short rest.
He encountered a spontaneous two-minute party at East Coast Park before continuing for another three hours.
The stretch along East Coast Park was particularly demanding due to its length, but it also offered scenic coastal views and a cool sea breeze.
The last leg of his journey covered the NSRCC area to Jurassic Mile in 50 minutes, followed by another 50-minute walk to Changi Airport, marking the completion of his cross-island trek.
The well-maintained pedestrian pathways and connectivity of Singapore’s transport infrastructure made the journey smoother despite the physical challenge.
Online Reactions and Comments
The video of the walk sparked various reactions from viewers. Some were in awe of the sheer distance covered, with one commenter calling 78,000 steps “crazy.”
Others humorously put the challenge into perspective, noting that it would take about eight times the average daily step count to walk the length of Singapore.
Some were curious about other endurance challenges, wondering how long it would take to walk around the entire island.
Another commenter asked about the potential weight loss from such an intense trek.
A Fulfilling Journey
In total, he walked for nearly 14 hours, achieving a maximum walking speed of 6.2 km/h.
The journey showcased Singapore’s urban landscape, natural scenery, and walkability, making it a challenging but rewarding experience.
