A Singapore-based domestic helper has caught the internet’s attention after sharing how her employer’s family celebrated her birthday at home.
Known as Monique on social media, she posted a lifestyle vlog showing how her day went, from getting through her usual chores to sitting down for a birthday celebration with the family in the evening.The video starts off pretty much like any other day.
Laundry had to be folded, lunch had to be prepared and the household still had to be taken care of. But somewhere between the cooking and cleaning, a few sweet birthday surprises came her way.One of them came from Leona, one of the children in the household, who made a birthday card for Monique herself.
Her birthday started with the usual chores
Monique’s morning was spent doing the usual housework. She was seen folding a pile of laundry in her room before heading into the kitchen to prepare lunch.
She chopped cauliflower, crushed garlic and cooked chicken adobo before sitting down to eat. Her lunch included white rice, vegetables and braised meat.
Nothing about the morning looked particularly different from her normal routine. She still had chores to get through, even though it was her birthday.
But the day eventually took a sweeter turn. She was seen folding a large pile of freshly washed laundry in her bedroom before moving on to prepare lunch.In the kitchen, she chopped cauliflower, crushed garlic and cooked chicken adobo before sitting down for a quiet meal of rice, vegetables and braised meat.
For most of the day, it looked like business as usual. Monique still had the usual household tasks to get through, even though it was her birthday.But then, she got a little surprise from one of the children.
Leona had made her a birthday card using a piece of notebook paper. The drawing showed trees, clouds and a little person wearing a hat, with a sweet message written on the back:“I love you to Monique from Leona K2.”
It was simple, but honestly, those are the kind of gifts that hit differently.
From Cooking Dinner to Birthday Celebrations
By the afternoon, it was back to the kitchen for Monique as she prepared dinner for the household.She was seen frying pieces of fish, making soup and getting marinated chicken ready in the air fryer. Basically, it was another normal day of cooking and getting things done.
Then the birthday mood finally kicked in.Later that evening, Monique sat at the dining table with two of the girls from the family, whom she called her “Friendship number 1 & number 2” in the video.Waiting on the table was a tray of chocolate brownies topped with colourful birthday candles.
The girls started clapping and singing Happy Birthday, while Monique smiled along and got ready to blow out the candles with them.
And Then Came The Birthday Gifts
The brownies were not the only surprise waiting for Monique.She later showed off the gifts from her employers, including a Viva La Juicy perfume set, a matching fragrance mist and several packs of facial sheet masks.
There was also a red packet decorated with gold details, with “Blessed birthday, Monique!” written across it.For someone celebrating a birthday away from home, the little effort clearly made the day feel different.
The vlog has since picked up tens of thousands of views, with viewers leaving plenty of positive comments about the way Monique was celebrated by the family.Many were especially touched by Leona’s handmade card, while others loved seeing the girls getting so excited about the birthday celebration.And honestly, it was not really about how much the gifts cost.
The card, the brownies, the singing and the time spent together were what made the whole thing feel special.
For domestic helpers who spend important occasions away from their own families, moments like these can carry a little extra meaning.Monique’s birthday may have started with laundry and cooking, but it ended with cake, gifts and a room full of people celebrating her.
