Started Exercising for New Year’s Resolution
A middle-aged man in Henan, China, suffered a collapsed lung after doing just 20 push-ups and a few minutes of jump rope.

According to Sinar Harian, he had recently started exercising as part of his New Year’s resolution but ended up in the hospital instead.

He had hoped to lose weight by incorporating light workouts into his routine. However, after only two sets of push-ups and a few minutes of jumping rope, he began feeling discomfort in his body.

Chest Pain and Breathing Issues the Next Day
Despite the discomfort, he continued with his daily activities. However, by the next day, he experienced severe chest pain and difficulty breathing, especially after simple movements like climbing stairs.

As the pain worsened, he decided to seek medical attention. Doctors later confirmed that he had suffered from pneumothorax, a condition where air leaks into the space between the lung and chest wall, causing the lung to collapse.
Lung Shrunk to One-Third Its Size
X-ray scans revealed that one of his lungs had shrunk to just a third of its original size due to the pressure from his exercise routine.

Doctors warned that if left untreated, his condition could have worsened, potentially leading to permanent damage or even death.
Doctors Urge Caution with Physical Activity
Medical experts advised people to always listen to their bodies and avoid pushing themselves too hard, even with seemingly light exercises.
