A 43-year-old man allegedly killed his 68-year-old mother and set her body on fire after an argument at their home in Jalan Tok Keling, Kedah, Malaysia on Sunday morning (March 2).
Argument Escalated Into Tragedy
According to China Press, the altercation began when the suspect’s mother, known as Tok Cha, asked him to take his medication.
When he refused, she turned off the television to get him to comply. Unfortunately, this allegedly triggered his violent reaction.
Suspect Attacked Victim with Hard Object
The suspect is believed to have attacked her with a hard object before setting her body on fire.
A neighbor then told local media that the suspect extinguished the fire himself, which is why firefighters were not alerted.

Neighbors Threatened Before Alerting Authorities
At the time of the incident, the suspect’s 14-year-old daughter was in the house. Upon hearing her grandmother’s screams for help, she ran outside to seek assistance from a neighbor’s wife.
Several neighbors attempted to intervene but were allegedly threatened by the suspect, prompting them to call the police.

Officers arrived at 7:48 am after receiving an emergency call and found the suspect behaving aggressively outside the house, NST reported.
Burnt Body Discovered Inside Home
Upon entering the house, police discovered a burnt body, believed to be the suspect’s mother.

The remains were later sent to Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital’s Forensic Department for a post-mortem examination.
Suspect Diagnosed With Mental Illness in 2019
Authorities confirmed that the suspect held a Persons with Disabilities (OKU) card for mental health conditions. According to Sinar Harian, he was diagnosed with a mental illness in 2019, reportedly due to family issues.
Additionally, a urine test conducted on the suspect came back negative for drugs, and checks revealed that he had no prior criminal record.
Remanded for Seven Days, Investigation Ongoing
The suspect was arrested on the spot and brought to the Kota Setar Magistrate’s Court on Monday (March 3), where he was issued a seven-day remand order until March 9 to assist in the investigation.

“Investigations are ongoing to determine the motive,” said Kota Setar police chief Assistant Commissioner Siti Nor Salawati Saad.
The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder, which carries the death penalty or up to 40 years in prison, along with no fewer than 12 strokes of the cane if convicted.
