On May 13, a viral TikTok video shared by @/localrkyt on X, originally posted by one of the participants, @/Yunott, showed a group of youngsters cooking with stoves outside a petrol station in Genting Highlands. The video sparked outrage online, with netizens condemning the act as reckless and senseless.

15 People Involved Arrested

Police detained 15 individuals at the Bentong Police Headquarters on May 20 for using gas stoves to cook. The group, comprising ten men and five women, turned themselves in at the district police station and were taken into custody. They were later released on police bail after recording their statements, according to Free Malaysia Today reports.

Viral Video Sparks Public Outcry

The incident, came to public attention after a 1-minute video clip went viral on social media. The video uploaded by the participants involved prompted complaints from the public about frequent disturbances and nuisances caused by such activities at the petrol station. Authorities noted that these gatherings were disruptive to public order and inconvenient for other motorists.

Ongoing Investigation and Legal Proceedings

Pahang police chief Yahaya Othman confirmed that the investigation papers are nearing completion, with statements from four witnesses already recorded to aid the investigation.

According to Malay Mail, the incident is being investigated under Section 268 of the Penal Code for causing a public nuisance and Section 336 for endangering life or personal safety. Comments and reactions

There were angry responses from online users as their use of such objects posed a serious threat to others at the scene following the incident on May 13.

“I have never seen someone on earth who uses stoves at a petrol station. This level of stupidity can’t be discussed.”

Another user commented,

“Malaysia’s Gen Zs are so stupid. Did you guys even finish school? Did you guys not take the Science subject? Hopefully, PDRM arrest them all and bring them to jail.”

Furthermore, one user even pointed out,

“And the fact that none of them had a fleeting thought, “It’s so dangerous to cook here” is even more saddening. This circle needs to be dismissed.”

As of the time of writing, the original poster, @/Yunott, has removed their post, and their account has been deactivated.
