Malaysian Pilgrims Safe
The fire started on 12 March at the Mira Ajyad Hotel in Mecca, where Malaysian pilgrims stayed. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reassured that everyone in the hotel is okay as far as the Malaysians are concerned.
This fire raised some concerns, but the authorities and travel agencies responded promptly to guarantee the safety of all the people. Reportedly, approximately 70 Malaysian pilgrims of TH Travel, Zahafiz Travel, and Rayhar Travel were in attendance in the hotel. The three travel agencies confirmed that they had accounted for all Malaysian pilgrims under their care.
Authorities Respond Fast
The Malaysian consul general in Jeddah became swift in communicating to the Saudi authorities and local Umrah travel agencies once the fire occurred. By 7:20 PM local time, officials confirmed that several Malaysian pilgrims had safely gathered outside the hotel. The ministry said that the cause of the fire is under investigation but did not observe any evidence of sabotage or a drone attack.
Hotel staff are currently preventing guests from entering their rooms while they conduct inspections. The management of the hotel are making alternative accommodation arrangements in case they are necessary. Emergency teams are doing their best to contain the situation
Hotel Safety Measures
To ensure safety, the hotel management is keeping all guests out of their rooms until officials finish the investigation. Travel agencies are also helping in temporary accommodation and making pilgrims comfortable. The ministry affirmed that they keep a close watch of the situation and that they are in touch with Saudi authorities to inform them about the situation. It is recommended that the Malaysian pilgrims remain calm and obey the orders provided by the local authorities and their travel agencies. Video footage depicted firefighters coping with the situation and making sure that no one was inside.
Ongoing Monitoring
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs clarified that the safety and welfare of pilgrims form their priority. Regular updates are being posted to inform the Malaysians in Mecca. Although the fire was disruptive temporarily, the authorities responded promptly to avoid any injury and guarantee the safety of all the guests.
Malaysian authorities advised pilgrims in the area to follow safety measures and wait until officials clear the hotel. The Consulate-General of Malaysia in Jeddah also asked Malaysians who need assistance to contact the office directly.
