Facebook

Mamak stalls are popular in Malaysia for quick meals and late-night hangouts, but there have long been complaints about cleanliness. Now, a mamak stall in Seremban, Negeri Sembilan, has been accused of serious food safety violations. The issue has sparked a huge debate after a netizen’s post went viral on social media.

The Facebook post said that the stall was preparing to reuse leftover food. As a result, new concerns about public health have been raised. The relevant authorities took swift action after the matter came to light.

Washing Leftover Food

According to the netizen’s claim, he saw a staff member of the stall washing leftover chicken, mutton and tofu in the middle of the night. He then allegedly arranged them in separate trays. Seeing this, he objected and mentioned the public health risk.

Initially, a staff member tried to avoid the issue but later admitted that the food would be recooked. It is claimed that the staff did not consider it dangerous. This statement further angered the netizen.

Health Department Raid

After the post went viral, the Negeri Sembilan State Health Department quickly announced an investigation. Health officials inspected the shop and found evidence of multiple irregularities. The shop was found to be unlicensed by the city council, had an unsanitary environment, and displayed unauthorized advertisements.

Cockroaches were also found, and the authorities failed to show the staff’s typhoid vaccination and food handling training certificates. For these reasons, the shop was ordered to close for 14 days and fined.

Netizen’s Reaction

After the incident came to light, many expressed gratitude for the disclosure of information and called for increased citizen awareness. Some claimed that such irregularities were not only happening in one shop but in many other food shops.

Others advised to be careful when buying food by looking at the color and texture, especially in dark-colored cooked food. Overall, netizens welcomed the strict action by the authorities. They also demanded regular monitoring in the future.
