Tears Turn to Triumph: M’sian Man Wins RM500 (S$152) in Kelantan’s Crying Contest

An unusual event in Kelantan, Malaysia recently had participants shedding tears for a chance to win cash prizes.

The contest, held as part of the Kelantan Event Expo, saw individuals, including children competing to deliver the most convincing cries in front of an audience.

Back for the Fourth Time

The event, now in its fourth edition, has previously been organized in various locations across the state, including Pasir Puteh, Kuala Krai, Tanah Merah, and Bachok.

According to NST, this year, 25 participants signed up, each hoping to impress the judges with their emotional expressions.

Monetary and Consolation Prizes

After multiple rounds, only four contestants advanced to the final stage, where they battled it out for the top prize of

  • RM500 (approx, 152.58 SGD).
  • The runner-up received RM300 (approx. 91.55 SGD),
  • The third-place finisher walked away with RM100 (approx, 30.51 SGD).

Consolation prizes were also awarded to the remaining participants.

The organizer, Muhamad Nur Amin Che Nor Asri, revealed that the competition was designed to add excitement to the expo while showing appreciation to loyal supporters.

A Victorious Performance

Among the finalists, a man from Wakaf Bharu, Kelantan stood out and ultimately claimed the RM500 prize. His emotional display outshone the competition, earning him the winning title.

Videos of the competition have since gained widespread attention, with some viewers finding the spectacle amusing, while others questioned the idea of competing to cry.

Despite mixed reactions, the event successfully entertained the crowd and brought an unusual yet lively touch to the expo.
