Jessica, a 24-year-old employee at a 7-Eleven outlet on Melrose Avenue in Hollywood, allegedly faced a violent assault from her own manager on 24 June — and never regained consciousness.
What began as a routine shift at the convenience store turned tragic for Jessica McLaughlin. After eight days on life support, her family made the painful decision to let her go. Her death is now being investigated as a homicide.
What Happened?
Jessica was reportedly ending her shift when a verbal dispute with the assistant manager escalated into something far more violent. Witnesses claim the manager grabbed her, pulled her to the ground, and sat on her — holding her down in a way that stopped her from breathing.

Co-workers rushed to help, and attempted CPR. But by the time emergency services arrived, it was already too late. Hospital personnel declared her brain-dead. Her family says her brain had gone without oxygen for too long.
Allegations of Cover-Up
Disturbingly, Jessica’s loved ones also claim the manager tried to delete security footage of the assault before fleeing the scene on a bicycle. Police have confirmed they have video evidence but have yet to release any details about the suspect.
The manager is still on the run.
A Life Cut Short — A Call for Accountability
Jessica’s brother described her as someone with a “beautiful soul” — the kind of person you could turn to without fear of judgment. Now, her family is left grieving, asking how such a horrific act could happen in a workplace.
They’re calling for justice. And they’re not alone. A GoFundMe page to cover funeral costs has raised tens of thousands. 7-Eleven has confirmed the manager has been fired and says it is cooperating with police — but for Jessica’s family, that’s not enough.
No One Should Die at Work
The case remains under active investigation.
Authorities urge anyone with relevant information to come forward as they work to establish a clearer understanding of the events leading to Jessica’s death.
