On 12 August, veteran actor and Samajwadi Party MP Jaya Bachchan once again found herself at the centre of controversy after she shoved a man who tried to take a selfie with her outside the Constitution Club in Delhi.
The incident, caught on camera, quickly spread across social media, reigniting conversations about personal space, fan culture, and the outspoken politician’s reputation for blunt responses.
The Incident at Constitution Club
In the viral clip, Bachchan, dressed in a red saree and Nehru cap, was speaking to a companion when a man leaned in to snap a picture with her. Visibly annoyed, she pushed him away and asked sternly, “What is this?” The startled man apologised immediately.
Other MPs, including Misa Bharti and Priyanka Chaturvedi, were seen nearby as the exchange unfolded.
Not the First Time
The 77-year-old parliamentarian has long expressed her dislike of uninvited photos and unsolicited fan interactions.

Earlier in April, she lashed out at an elderly woman during actor Manoj Kumar’s prayer meet when the woman tapped her shoulder for a picture. Bachchan not only rebuffed the handshake but also scolded a man attempting to capture the moment on his phone.

In her granddaughter Navya Naveli Nanda’s podcast What The Hell Navya?, Bachchan explained her strong stance: “I despise people who interfere in your personal life. I am disgusted with such behaviour. Don’t you feel ashamed?”
Divided Reactions Online
The fresh video triggered polarised reactions.
Some users criticised her as “arrogant” and accused her of disrespecting fans, while others defended her right to refuse unsolicited photos.
A Familiar Pattern
This is far from Bachchan’s first clash with fans or photographers. From red carpet snubs to confrontations with paparazzi, she has frequently made headlines for rejecting invasive behaviour. While critics label her responses “hostile,” supporters argue she is simply demanding the same privacy any individual deserves.
As the clip continues to spread, the debate around celebrity accessibility versus personal boundaries shows no signs of slowing down.
