Global exhibitors showcase halal products
From salt to sweets – Inaugural D-8 Halal Expo opens in Jakarta with eyes on massive cross-border trade expansion
The D-8 Halal Expo Indonesia 2026 opened in Jakarta on Wednesday, bringing together food, crafts and trade displays from across the Muslim world.
Footage shows national pavilions displaying Pakistani salt, Iranian crafts and Palestinian food, as visitors move between stalls inside the Senayan Indoor Tennis Stadium.

Iranian Ambassador to Indonesia Mohammad Boroujerdi said the five-day event was a chance to build business links between D-8 countries.
“This year we have a big stall and pavilion in the Halal Diet, Halal exhibition, and maybe it consists of 11 companies from different fields of food, beverages, essences and also medicine. We expect for our companies here to be able to have B2B and B2G negotiations here, and find some partners here,” Boroujerdi said.
Cultural exchange alongside trade talks
Palestinian Ambassador Abdalfatah Alsattar thanked organisers for giving Palestine a visible place at the expo.

“I think Indonesia, the organisers, like to see all the people know everything about the culture of their countries,” he said. “This is very important to all people to know the culture about their countries.”
The expo combines business meetings with cultural showcases from D-8 member states and partner countries.
“I’m visiting here with my family. It’s a great initiative here by the government of Indonesia to set up a halal certification standard across all countries,” said a visitor.

Indonesia hosts regional economic gathering
Held under Indonesia’s 2026 to 2027 chairmanship of the D-8, the event runs from July 8 to 12.
The D-8 was founded in 1997 to strengthen economic cooperation among major Muslim developing countries. Its members are Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Nigeria, Pakistan and Turkey.
