On the night of Saturday, November 2, 2024, around 9PM, a tragic event unfolded in Serdang Bedagai (Sergai) Regency, in North Sumatra, Indonesia.
Agus Herbin Tambun, a resident of Suka Damai Village in Sei Bamban District, fatally stabbed his wife, Hertalina br Simanjuntak, in a fit of jealousy while she was livestreaming a karaoke session with her family on Facebook.
The Chilling Moment on Facebook Live
The chilling incident was captured live for viewers to witness. As Hertalina enjoyed a karaoke session with one of her family members, Agus approached her from behind.
He then reached for something next to her, seemingly a knife, and suddenly began stabbing her multiple times.
Amid the horror, family members screamed in panic.
One man, dressed in white, tried to restrain Agus, while the women rushed to help the victim.
Efforts to Save the Victim
Immediately following the attack, Agus fled the scene while Hertalina’s family quickly took her body to Chevani Hospital. Unfortunately, she had already succumbed to her injuries by the time they arrived.
Video Goes Viral and Police Arrest
The 32-second video of the attack was shared on social media, quickly going viral. It was posted by @/bacottetangga__ on social media platform X on November 4, 2024, where it garnered 3.9 million views to date.
Within 24 hours of the attack, the police acted swiftly, arresting Agus at a relative’s home in the nearby village of Pon Village, Sei Bamban District.
Unprovoked Attack and Jealous Motive
AKP Donny Simatupang, Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit of Sergai Police, stated that Agus acted without much warning, immediately stabbing his wife without speaking a word.
As reported by Tribun News, Agus admitted that his actions were fueled by feelings of betrayal and jealousy. He believed that his wife frequently communicated with her former spouse which ultimately led him to commit the crime.
Ongoing Investigation
Agus now remains in police custody, undergoing further questioning as the investigation continues. The viral video of the crime continues to circulate, intensifying public outrage and sorrow over the tragic event.
