A woman in China has been handed a prison sentence of five years and two months for selling both of her sons in separate transactions to support her extravagant lifestyle, which included spending heavily on livestreamers and designer clothing.
The 26-year-old, identified as Huang, was convicted of human trafficking and fraud, according to Sinar Harian.

The verdict was delivered by the Jin’an District People’s Court in Fuzhou on July 8, 2025. In addition to her prison term, she was also fined 30,000 yuan (around S$5,372).

Abandoned as a Child, Raised Without Support
Originally from the Guangxi region, Huang was adopted as a child and raised in an environment lacking both care and formal education.
Neglect and hardship during her early years reportedly led her to leave home at an early age. She later relocated to Fuzhou, Fujian province, where she took on various part-time jobs to survive.
Sold First Baby for Over S$8,000
It was in October 2020 that Huang became a mother for the first time. Without support from the baby’s father and facing financial stress, she decided to give up the child in exchange for money.

With the help of her landlord, Wei, she was introduced to Li, whose daughter was unable to conceive and was looking to adopt.
Li’s family ended up paying 45,000 yuan (about S$8,059) for the infant.
Instead of using the money to improve her situation, Huang reportedly blew it all on luxury apparel and giving large tips to livestreaming hosts online.
Planned Second Pregnancy for Profit
After running out of funds from the first transaction, Huang allegedly began seeking men to sleep with, intentionally trying to become pregnant again, this time solely to sell another baby.
She gave birth to her second son, Guyu, in 2022. This time, the baby was sold to a broker for 38,000 yuan (around S$6,806).
The broker later resold the child for 103,000 yuan (S$18,448), turning a significant profit.
Police Uncovered the Scheme After a Tip-Off
Authorities were alerted to the case in April 2022.
During the investigation, police found text messages on Huang’s phone that detailed her involvement in baby-selling negotiations.
Both Children Rescued, Three People Convicted
Following this, both children were rescued. They are now under the care of the local welfare department while waiting to be placed with adoptive families.
Huang was not the only one sentenced. Li received nine months in prison with a one-year suspension for purchasing a trafficked child, while the landlord Wei was sentenced to seven months.
