Security Guard in Manila Fired After Physically Assaulting Schoolgirl Selling Flowers at Mall Grounds

A security guard stationed at SM Megamall in Mandaluyong City, Metro Manila, was fired after a video of him destroying a schoolgirl’s flowers went viral.

The Viral Video

The video showed the girl, wearing a school uniform, sitting on the steps outside the mall selling flowers. The security guard approached her, asked her to leave, and then forcibly took her flowers, tearing them apart.

According to Inquirer.net, the girl and another child had sought refuge from light rain near the mall steps. When the guard told them to leave, the children resisted, citing the rain as their reason for staying.

The situation escalated when the girl attempted to defend herself by hitting the guard with the remaining flowers.

In turn, the guard appeared to kick her, though it was unclear if contact was made.

Mall Takes Immediate Action

Following the incident, SM Megamall released a statement expressing regret over what had happened.

The management confirmed that the guard had been dismissed and would not be allowed to work in any of their establishments in the future.

“We have called the attention of the security agency to conduct an immediate and thorough investigation. The security guard has been dismissed and will no longer be allowed to service any of our malls,” the mall said.

They also emphasized their commitment to inclusivity and condemned the guard’s actions.

Apology from the Security Agency

The agency employing the guard issued an apology, emphasizing the need for professionalism and emotional control among their personnel.

They reiterated their commitment to training security guards to handle incidents with empathy and respect.

Police Investigation Ongoing

The Philippine National Police (PNP) Civil Security Group has stepped in to investigate the incident, describing the guard’s actions as potentially breaching ethical and professional standards.

According to PNA, authorities are now considering revoking his license to prevent similar incidents in the future. Meanwhile, the Supervisory Office on Security and Investigation Agency (SOSIA) is closely examining whether the guard’s agency has upheld proper training and ethical guidelines for its personnel.

At the same time, Mandaluyong City police are making efforts to identify the young schoolgirl involved. Investigators are reaching out to her school to gather more details, aiming to ensure her well-being and clarify what happened.
