Fireworks During Festive Season Can Be Risky
With Hari Raya Aidilfitri approaching, fireworks are becoming more common as people celebrate the festive season.

While many enjoy them safely, some take risks by modifying fireworks to create bigger explosions. Unfortunately, these experiments can lead to serious accidents.
Fireworks Explosion in School Dormitory
Recently, a dangerous experiment in a school dormitory in Jeli, Kelantan, ended in disaster. According to NST, one such incident occurred at 4:40 PM on March 23, 2025, in the male dormitory of a religious school.
A 16-year-old student lost a finger, while two others, aged 15 and 16, suffered burns and injuries.
Modified Fireworks Led to Unexpected Blast
Investigations revealed that the students had attempted to modify fireworks by mixing sulfur with small stones inside a bottle to create an improvised explosive.

However, the device detonated unexpectedly.
“As a result, they suffered injuries and burns on various parts of their bodies. One of them, aged 16, lost a finger on his left hand,” Jeli District Chief Superintendent Kamarulzaman Harun said in a statement.

Students Currently Receiving Treatment, Police Warn Parents to Stay Vigilant
Kamarulzaman said all three victims are currently receiving treatment at the Jeli Hospital’s emergency department.
In addition, he also urged parents to closely monitor their children’s activities, especially with the festive season around the corner.
