A quiet morning in Kuala Lumpur turned into a scene of shock on Tuesday when a busy road suddenly gave way. At approximately 11:00 am on April 22, a section of the street outside Pudu Plaza along Jalan Pudu collapsed.
The incident created a large, deep sinkhole that partially swallowed a black Perodua Alza parked at the side of the road.

The driver was not inside the vehicle when the ground opened up. Witnesses described a loud sound followed by the sight of the car’s front wheel sinking deep into the earth. Many people nearby stopped to watch as the pavement cracked and fell away, leaving the car tilting precariously into the hole.
Quick Emergency Response
The Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department, known locally as Bomba, arrived at the scene shortly after the incident was reported. Several firemen in their distinctive camouflage uniforms were seen assessing the stability of the ground.
They quickly cordoned off the area to keep curious onlookers at a safe distance from the unstable road surface.

A viral video of the incident shows a team of firefighters working together to rescue the trapped vehicle. Instead of using a traditional tow truck, the team utilized a heavy Scania fire engine.
They attached strong cables to the back of the Perodua Alza and carefully pulled it out of the sinkhole. The rescue took several minutes of careful coordination to ensure the car did not suffer more damage.
Safety Checks and Repairs
Fortunately, local authorities confirmed that no injuries were reported during the event. The area around Jalan Pudu is known for being very busy with shoppers and commuters, so many felt lucky that no pedestrians were walking on that specific spot when the collapse happened.

Officials have started an investigation to find the cause of the sinkhole. They are looking into the possibility of underground water pipe leaks or soil erosion caused by recent heavy rain.
The road remains partially closed to traffic while engineers check the safety of the surrounding pavement. Workers are expected to begin filling the hole and repaving the section of Jalan Pudu once the ground is declared stable. For now, drivers are advised to avoid the area near Pudu Plaza.
