A Japanese man’s brand-new Ferrari caught fire just one hour after it was delivered to him in Tokyo, forcing a section of the Shuto Expressway to close temporarily.

The luxury car, worth around 43 million yen (approx. S$394,000), had only been on the road for about an hour when it went up in flames on the afternoon of Tuesday, April 16, 2025.
Owner Spent 10 Years Saving for the Car
According to TBS News Dig, the owner of the Ferrari is a 33-year-old Japanese music producer known as Honkon, who said he had spent a decade saving up to purchase the vehicle.
The white Ferrari 458 Spider caught fire on the Haneda Route of the Shuto Expressway near Hamazakibashi Junction at around 2:29 PM.

It Was the Man’s First Car
“I’d been looking forward to this and saved up while struggling financially, so for this to happen on the very day… I just think, what a life,” Honkon said.
This was also the man’s first car.
He added, “There’s definitely a bit of trauma. Even if I buy another car I like, what if the same thing happens again?”
Honkon shared that the fire started while he was driving.
“I thought it was going to explode, and I was really scared,” he wrote.
YouTuber Was a Passenger When Fire Broke Out
A YouTuber, Pokekamen, was also in the car when the fire occurred. He had accepted a ride from Honkon, whom he referred to as “the president,” and later shared photos of the burning Ferrari on social media.
In one photo, he was seen standing in front of the car just before departure. Another showed the car engulfed in flames with black smoke billowing into the air.

“It wasn’t due to driving, it was a mechanical fault,” Pokekamen stated on his account, according to a source.
He later confirmed that both he and Honkon were safe and unhurt.
“It happened on the day of delivery, so I really feel bad for the president.”
In his YouTube short, Pokekamen shared that while filming during the drive, everything went smoothly. But shortly after he got out, smoke started coming out of the car as Honkon drove alone.
Upon realizing his car was unsafe, Honkon pulled over, exited the vehicle, and immediately contacted the police.
In addition, passersby who witnessed the scene also shared videos on social media regarding the incident. Many expressed shock and questioned if the Ferrari belonged to Honkon.

Fire Put Out in 25 Minutes, No Injuries Reported
According to reports, the fire was extinguished about 25 minutes after it began. The Tokyo Metropolitan Police and emergency services responded quickly to the blaze.
During the incident, the affected section of the expressway was closed to traffic until 4:20 PM.
Authorities have confirmed that there were no signs of a collision. The exact cause of the fire is still under investigation, and fortunately, no one was injured.
