An unusual incident in one of the supermarkets in Fujian, China, was a frightening experience that became a tale of swiftness and collaboration when an aged gentleman was nearly pushed down a rising escalator by people who pushed the buttons causing it to move.
It was an event that occurred in Sanming and was posted online, and most of the audience praised the quick and calm reaction of the people around the area.
As the old man was riding the escalator, he lost his balance and fell backward. There was no one who could take care of the man and his body was hanging in a very dangerous position, and the movements of the steps increased the risk.
For several seconds, there was a feeling that an awful accident might occur.
An Emergency on the Escalator.
The man was immediately reacted upon by an old woman who was standing beside him. She stretched out and caught his arm to decrease the gravity and prevent the falling. Her move allowed anyone to get enough time to notice what was going on and come to her rescue.
One of the shoppers who was passing nearby, later identified as Li Fulian, rushed to the escalator. Meanwhile, a member of the staff at a nearby supermarket was out there to run over the man and squeeze his wrist. The two of them pooled their efforts in sustaining him against falling backwards on the steps.
Teamwork Within Seconds
Other employees of the supermarket saw the threat and were not afraid to take action. To halt it, one of the members of staff closed the escalator swiftly. This rendered it safe to all so that the old man could be hauled back up.
The group hoisted the man out of the escalator with several individuals gripping on him. They moved quickly, but in a controlled manner and there was evident teamwork during the tense time. In a few seconds the man was once more safe on terra firma.
Video Goes Viral
A video was shot of the whole rescue and posted on the internet. The video went viral and many observers were moved by the manner in which strangers came to work together and they did not panic. The video pointed out the effect of simple actions in the face of an emergency.
Reports indicate that the old man did not have any injuries and he was merely scared. Since the incident, he can stand up and walk normally; this was through the intervention of the people who came in at the opportune moment.
Since then, the incident was regarded as one of the most effective demonstrations of awareness and collaboration in the social space, demonstrating how quick actions can help avoid severe damage.
