Jordan dispatched a 15-truck humanitarian aid convoy to Lebanon on Thursday, transporting medical supplies along with food and relief materials, to support those affected and displaced by the ongoing conflict.

Footage from Zarqa shows aid trucks lined up ahead of departure, several bearing signs reading, ‘gift from the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan to the brotherly Lebanese Republic.’ The convoy is later seen traveling along the Zarqa-Mafraq road before crossing the Jaber border crossing into Syria.

“This is the third convoy this year, alongside several convoys over previous years, whether via the land bridge or successive airlifts, sending aid to our brothers in Lebanon,” explained Hussein Al-Shibli, the Secretary-General of the Hashemite Charitable Organisation.

“This convoy will mark the start of a series of convoys under Jordanian and international cooperation to send aid in the coming period, to meet and assess needs in the Lebanese Republic,” he noted.

According to figures released Wednesday by Lebanon’s Disaster Risk Management Unit, the number of displaced people in shelters has reached 141,613, while the death toll since the start of the latest conflict stands at 2,167, with 7,061 others injured.

Tensions in the Middle East escalated after Israel and the United States launched military operations against Iran on February 28. Tehran retaliated with strikes targeting Israeli territory and US interests across the region.

The conflict spilt over into Lebanon, when Hezbollah announced its intervention ‘in revenge’ for the killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.

A ceasefire between Iran and the US-Israel alliance came into effect last week, though disputes remain over whether it extends to Lebanon. Talks between the sides ended in Islamabad on Sunday without agreement.

Meanwhile, rare direct talks between Lebanese and Israeli officials took place in Washington DC on Tuesday, the first such engagement in decades. Officials described the meeting as ‘open, direct, high-level’ diplomacy aimed at exploring a possible ceasefire between Lebanon and Israel.
