On the evening of December 23, 2024, a decorative Christmas tree caught fire outside the Sunway Pyramid Mall in Subang Jaya, Malaysia.
The incident, which occurred at approximately 7:10 PM, caused brief alarm among shoppers enjoying the holiday season.
However, quick response and efficient protocols ensured the situation was brought under control without any injuries or structural damage.
Emergency Response
According to the Selangor Fire and Rescue Department, an emergency call alerted authorities to the fire at 7:10 PM.
Within seven minutes (7:17 PM), six firefighters, led by Senior Fire Officer II Shamsul Abidin, arrived at the scene, situated only 5km from the Subang Jaya Fire and Rescue Station.
By then, the mall’s security and maintenance teams had already extinguished the blaze, limiting the fire’s impact on the outdoor display area.
A single Fire Rescue Tender vehicle was deployed for the response. Authorities confirmed that the fire did not spread to nearby structures, and there were no casualties.
Investigation Ongoing
Investigations into the incident are ongoing to determine the cause of the fire. Authorities and mall management are committed to ensuring enhanced safety measures to prevent similar occurrences during future events.
