Historic Peace Walk
On 10 February, a group of Buddhist monks completed their 108-day Walk for Peace in Washington, DC. The monks walked nearly 2,000 miles from Texas to the US capital. They started on 26 October 2025 in Huong Dao Vipassana Bhavana Center in Fort Worth.

For four months, they moved forward step by step. Some days they walked barefoot. Other days they crossed snowy roads during freezing weather. The Buddhist monks said their goal was to share mindfulness and encourage peace across communities. As they entered Washington, DC, supporters gathered along the streets to watch the final steps of the long journey.
Message Across America
The Walk for Peace gained wide attention online as videos spread across social media platforms. According to sources, the monks walked quietly in a single line while people stood respectfully on both sides of the road. Their leader, the Venerable Bhikkhu Pannakara, explained that the journey focused on inner peace, not political debate. He said he hoped people would continue practicing mindfulness after meeting the monks. At a time when political division remains strong in the United States, the calm presence of the Buddhist monks created a powerful contrast. Their simple message reached millions who followed the journey online.
Arrival in Capital
When the monks arrived in Washington, DC, they visited the Washington National Cathedral and joined an interfaith service. They also planned visits to the Abraham Lincoln Memorial and the Peace Monument near the US Capitol grounds.

According to a video, the final day started in Arlington, Virginia, about five miles from the capital. Snow still covered parts of the ground as temperatures slowly rose after weeks of record cold in the eastern United States. The steady sound of their footsteps filled the quiet morning air as they approached the heart of the nation.
Unexpected Road Incident
The 108-day Walk for Peace was not without hardship. In November, an escort vehicle traveling beside the monks in Houston, Texas, was struck by a truck. Two monks suffered injuries, and one later lost part of his leg. Despite the painful accident, the group decided to continue their march.

They kept walking in the same single-file formation each day. Buddhists believe that 108 signifies spiritual completion. Reaching this number of days added deeper meaning to their peaceful mission across America.
Journey Back Home
After finishing their Walk for Peace in Washington, DC, the monks prepared for a faster return trip to Texas. They expect to travel by bus and arrive in Fort Worth on Saturday. While their walking journey has ended, the memory of Buddhist monks crossing states in silence will likely remain strong for many Americans. The 108-day Walk of Peace is currently a wonderful spiritual event that introduced sanity and tranquility to the cities along the long and difficult route.
