A Shocking Encounter in the River
A tour guide in Indonesia has survived a terrifying moment after being attacked by a six-metre python while on a river trip in Borneo. The man, named Heru, was leading a group of tourists when he spotted the massive snake resting near the riverbank.

Thinking he could safely capture it, Heru reached into the water to grab the python by its head. But within seconds, the snake lunged and pulled him straight into the river, leaving the others on the boat in shock.
Caught in the Python’s Deadly Grip
According to the video, the giant python wrapped its body tightly around Heru’s torso and neck as he struggled to stay above water. The crew, who first thought the fall was a joke, quickly realized the danger and rushed to help.

One man grabbed the snake’s head while another pulled its thick tail, fighting to release their guide from its powerful coils. The group’s brave effort finally freed Heru, who was gasping for air but unharmed.
The Moment of Relief
Once the python was restrained, the team lifted it onto the boat. The massive creature, shining with water and muscle, was one of the largest the group had ever seen.
After taking photos for record purposes, they safely released it back into the wild. Heru appeared calm afterward, though visibly shaken by the experience. The guide, known for handling snakes, said he had never faced such a powerful reptile before
Pythons of Borneo
Borneo is home to several python species, including the Reticulated python, which can reach extraordinary lengths of up to ten metres. These snakes are non-venomous but kill their prey by constriction—wrapping around and squeezing until the victim cannot breathe.

They are common in rainforests and river areas, where they hunt birds, pigs, and small mammals. During dry seasons, they often move closer to villages searching for food, sometimes entering homes or sewers.
A Close Call Remembered

The dramatic event quickly spread online, with viewers amazed by the guide’s survival and the crew’s teamwork. Experts later commented that even experienced handlers should never underestimate a wild python’s strength.
Despite the terrifying scene, Heru said he would continue his work as a nature guide, with a deeper respect for the animals he studies.
