A Birthday to Trumpet About: Baby Elephant Blows Out Candle in Thailand

A Birthday Bash to Remember

In a heart-melting celebration, a baby elephant in Thailand showcased her charm by blowing out the candle on her special birthday “cake” all by herself.

The young elephant, named Phauek Sichai Phum, turned four years old and marked the joyous occasion with her loving caretakers at an animal camp in Chaiyaphum, Thailand.

“Fruit” Cake and First Candle

To make her day unforgettable, Phauek’s caretakers prepared a vibrant cake crafted entirely from her favorite fruits, including bananas, corn, and watermelon. The colorful arrangement wasn’t just for show—it was a feast meant to delight the young elephant.

As a crowd gathered, Phauek eagerly approached the platter, her excitement almost getting the better of her. However, her mahout—an elephant caretaker—gently guided her to wait.

Following his encouragement, Phauek lifted her trunk, made a small trumpeting sound, and blew out the large yellow candle perched at the center of the fruit spread with a smooth puff—just like a human child would.

Cuteness Captured on Camera

A 24-second video clip captured the heartwarming moment that quickly went viral. The footage shows Phauek being gently instructed by her mahout to back away slightly and aim her trunk at the candle.

After a few playful sounds, she managed to extinguish the flame in one adorable swoosh.

The mahout, visibly delighted, rewarded Phauek with a warm smile and a pat on her trunk.

With the candle extinguished, the enthusiastic elephant swiftly grabbed a banana from the fruit ‘cake’ and happily munched on it, delighting the crowd.

“She Was So Adorable,” Says Staff

Haruthai Phanwiset, a staff member at the animal camp, couldn’t hide his admiration for the young elephant’s cleverness. “She knew how to blow out the candle flames,” he remarked. “She was so adorable.”

It was Phauek’s first-ever birthday candle experience, and she pulled it off with remarkable flair, proving once again just how intelligent and endearing elephants can be.

Elephants: A National Treasure

Elephants have long been revered in Thailand for their profound cultural and historical importance. They once played crucial roles in farming, logging, and even warfare. Today, they are recognized as Thailand’s national animal, symbolizing strength and wisdom.

Although some elephants still roam wild, many live in captivity, often working in tourism or residing in sanctuaries. After the government banned logging and the tourism industry underwent major changes, caretakers moved numerous elephants to sanctuaries focused on their protection and welfare.

At facilities like the one in Chaiyaphum, caretakers lovingly tend to elephants such as Phauek Sichai Phum, and celebrations like these showcase the strong bond between humans and these majestic animals.
