A verdict was announced on 18 December, 2025 in a horrific and shocking case in the history of the medical profession in France. A court in the country has sentenced a doctor to life in prison for poisoning 30 children and adult patients.

The court ruled that the accused doctor, Frederic Peschier, committed this terrible crime while humiliating his colleagues for almost a decade. The incident has raised new questions about patient safety and the medical system across France.
The Beginning of the Terrible Accusation
Frédéric Péchier worked as an anesthetist at two clinics in the eastern French city of Besançon. Between 2008 and 2017, patients there suffered sudden heart attacks during surgery.

Many of them were low-risk patients. But suspiciously, 12 people could not be saved. An investigation into this unusual incident began in 2017. Then, sensational information gradually began to emerge.
Poisoning Technique
The prosecution said in court that Peschier deliberately mixed various drugs, including potassium, in saline bags. As a result, the patients had severe reactions. Sometimes heart disease, sometimes excessive bleeding.

His goal was to mentally upset his colleagues. At the same time, there were allegations that he wanted to show his power and influence. The court considered it a planned murder.
The Court’s Harsh Verdict
After a hearing that lasted more than three months, Judge Delphine Thibarz announced the verdict. He made it clear that the accused would be sent to prison immediately. In addition, the doctor was banned from the medical profession for life.

The accused was silent during the verdict, but his family members broke down in tears. His lawyer has already announced an appeal.
Victims’ Reactions
Many victims breathed a sigh of relief after the verdict was announced. One woman said that the verdict put an end to their long nightmare. Another elderly victim said that now it will at least be possible to spend time with their family in peace.

The investigation revealed that the youngest, a four-year-old child, survived the poisoning. The incident has reinforced calls for renewed vigilance over patient safety in France.
