In a tragic incident, a 35-year-old man from Chhattisgarh, India, died after swallowing a live chick as part of a superstitious ritual.
Anand Yadav, a resident of Chhindkalo village in Ambikapur district, had struggled with infertility for 15 years before finally becoming a father.
After the birth of his son, Yadav became convinced that occult practices had played a role in helping him become a parent.
To express his gratitude and seek further blessings, he turned to rituals involving a local occultist.
According to The New Indian Express, Yadav frequently consulted the occult practitioner, believing that such practices were key to his wishes being fulfilled.
The Ritual
The incident took place shortly after Yadav performed a Mundan ceremony (a Hindu tradition where a baby’s first head of hair is shaved) for his infant son.
Yadav, believing his son’s birth was a result of an occult spell, purchased a black chick for ₹200 (approx. 3.19 SGD) and swallowed it as part of a ritual, likely in gratitude for fathering a child.
However, things took a tragic turn when the chick became lodged in his throat, blocking both his windpipe and esophagus.
The Fatal Outcome
Family members reported that shortly after taking a bath, Yadav began feeling dizzy and struggled to breathe before collapsing at home.
He was rushed to the Medical College Hospital in Ambikapur, but doctors declared him dead after examinations.
20 cm Chick Stuck in Windpipe
Following his death, an autopsy later revealed the shocking cause of death: the 20-centimeter-long chick had become stuck in a U-shape inside Yadav’s throat, completely obstructing his windpipe and esophagus.
Dr. Santu Bagh, the forensic expert who conducted the post-mortem, stated,
“This is the first time I’ve encountered such a case in my career, having conducted over 15,000 autopsies.”
The suffocation caused by the chick’s position ultimately led to Yadav’s untimely demise.
Police Investigation on the Occultist
Following the incident, local police initiated an investigation, particularly focusing on the role of the occultist.
Ambikapur district police chief Yogesh Patel emphasized that those promoting harmful superstitious practices would be held accountable.
