A former Move Forward Party MP, Amarat Chokepamitkul, fulfilled a vow on Monday, September 1, by undressing and performing a traditional dance at a shrine in Nakhon Pathom after former Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra was removed from office on Friday, August 29..
What She Vowed—and When She Did It
Amarat had publicly declared on June 6 that she would “strip and dance” if Paetongtarn left the premiership before the end of 2025, Thairath reported.
At 7:30 am on September 1, she posted photos from the shrine, noting they were taken “before undressing” and saying friends were present as witnesses.

Later that same day, she uploaded the video of the ritual with a caption marking the occasion of Paetongtarn’s removal.
Inside the Shrine Ceremony
The performance was held inside a square area enclosed with white cloth to protect her modesty.
Before beginning, Amarat placed offerings at the shrine and then stepped into the screened space.

Once inside, she took off her clothes and handed them to a woman waiting outside the barricade.

She then danced to the song “Pop Phi Fa” while the Nakhon Pathom municipal councillor and some friends joined as witnesses.

When the ritual ended, Amarat was given a fresh set of clothes. She dressed, returned to the shrine to pay respects once more.

Made the Vow Out of Irritation and Frustration
Amarat stated on Facebook that she is not particularly superstitious and made the vow out of irritation and frustration, yet felt obliged to keep her word.
She apologized for not announcing the ritual in advance, explaining she feared the small venue could become overcrowded or disrupted, which might have prevented her from completing it.
The Case Behind Paetongtarn’s Removal
Thailand’s Constitutional Court ordered Paetongtarn Shinawatra to vacate office on August 29, ruling that she seriously violated ethical standards for Thai politicians during a phone conversation with Cambodian Senate President Hun Sen.

The call drew public criticism as she was accused of undermining the Thai military, seeking sympathy by likening herself to Hun Sen’s niece, and suggesting she would accommodate his wishes to ease border tensions, according to The Thaiger
Paetongtarn denied wrongdoing, saying her phrasing was a negotiation tactic to calm tensions, but the court was not persuaded.
