On September 17, 2024, Singapore was hit by a typhoon, bringing heavy rain and strong winds that swept across the island. Many people sought immediate shelter to escape the harsh weather, but one woman, an “auntie,” had other priorities.
Her persistence to order biryani, despite the dangerous conditions, was caught on CCTV and later shared by Ajmir Biryani, a stall located just outside Hillion Mall.
CCTV Footage
In the footage, the storm is seen wreaking havoc on the area. Winds were so strong that objects were tossed into the air, and people were frantically running to seek safety.
But amid the chaos, one lady remained certain to get her meal. Armed with only an umbrella and a plastic bag, she approached the stall as though the storm wasn’t happening.
Unshaken by the Storm
The umbrella in her hand was clearly struggling against the violent wind, nearly blown away several times. Despite this, the auntie continued her quest, clutching it as best she could while trying to shield herself from the downpour.
The workers, who were busy securing the stall from the typhoon’s destruction, couldn’t help but notice the auntie’s determination to get the briyani.
The staff burst into smiles and laughter at her persistence and quickly prepared her biryani. In the middle of a storm, they handed over her prized dish, much to her delight.
Video Brings Amusement to Netizens
After Ajmir Biryani shared the CCTV footage on their Instagram account, netizens were quick to react. The video gained significant attention as comments poured in, with many expressing their amusement at the auntie. The sheer absurdity of someone braving a typhoon for biryani resonated with viewers.
According to the comments section under the video, one user cheekily remarked, “Typhoon myphoon, briyani comes first.”
Another recounted a similar experience, describing how an “auntie” also approached them at a hawker center next to a burning hardware store, asking if she could still buy chicken rice. They added a touch of humor, saying, “Auntie u so cute lah.”
While another humorously told the stall to change their stall name to “Typhoon Briyani” relating to the recent incident.
While the typhoon brought chaos and disruption to many across Singapore, the auntie’s personality provided a hilarious moment amidst the storm.
One thing was clear: neither wind nor rain could come between this auntie and her biryani.
