Fire at Block 304A Sembawang Close
Due to firefighting operations, and as a precautionary measure, 100 residents from the 7th floor to the 15th floor of the block were evacuated by the Police.
The unit where the fire occurred was occupied by a family with 4 children aged 6 to 10 years old. One child, aged 8, has special needs.
In a Facebook post, SCDF stated that its firefighters involved in the operation had to don breathing apparatus sets to enter the “smoke-logged unit”. The fire was extinguished in about 15 minutes. However, due to damaged caused by heat and smoke, their living room was barely recognisable.
The Fire left nothing behind, only memories.
Reflecting on the damage caused by the fire, the mother of the family said “?????? ???????? ????? ??? ????? ????? ?? ???????…?? ??????? ????? ????????”, which means that the fire left nothing behind, only memories.
Some photos which depict the extent of the damage caused by the fire are appended below.
The mother, who had stayed in the flat for the past 15 years, shared that the fire was a very traumatising experience for her 4 children.
Fundraiser started for the family
A fundraiser has been started on behalf of the family on Facebook and Instagram.
Those who wish to donate may do so via PayNow to 8742 5939.
The family, who is temporarily staying in Jurong now with some family members, is looking to rent a place in the North of Singapore. The mother shared that it is not ideal for her children, who study in schools in Sembawang, to travel to and fro from Jurong.
For now, the family has sufficient essential items to tide over due to the generosity of many kind individuals. However, the fundraiser is still accepting cash donations via PayNow.
