“Eviction” Adoption Drive to be held for 80+ cats that need urgent rehoming due to land reclamation

Evicted due to SLA Land Reclamation

This July, at least 8 shelters & boarding places dealing largely with rescued animals will be evicted from Lim Chu Kang. The land will be handed back to the government for redevelopment.

For more than 15 years, rescuers & volunteers have trekked these dusty roads in Singapore’s countryside to tend to rescued cats & dogs. While the facilities are not the best, they provide a much-needed shelter over these animals’ heads while they await their forever homes.

Eviction Adoption Drive

This Saturday, 25 June, one such cattery is holding an Eviction Adoption Drive, featuring more than 80 homeless cats up for adoption. Their fate after the cattery is forced to close its doors in July is uncertain.

Date: Saturday, 25th June 2022

Location: Meow N Wuff Cattery, 80 Lim Chu Kang Lane 1

Time: 12pm to 6pm

MeownWuff left in the lurch

The cattery, Meownwuff, works primarily with rescuers- hence all 80+ cats for adoption were all previously rescued off the streets. Some hail from dangerous industrial areas, others were rescued from abuses, hoarding situations, and many of them are a direct result of the pet abandonment crisis- these former pets cannot survive the mean streets of urban Singapore. Further information on the cattery may be found here.

Meownwuff has been unable to secure a lease at the government’s purpose-built “The Animal Lodge”, meant for pet farms, independent shelters, & animal welfare groups.

While cattery owner Alison searches for another suitable location to replace this one at Lim Chu Kang, there are slim pickings. There are simply few places that can house the sheer number of rescued cats, what more at a price that is reasonable for a business that is in effect supporting rescuers who pay out of their own pocket for rental.

Other shelters along the same stretch face the same predicament. Dogs & cats, & their beleaguered rescuers are largely left in the lurch due to this eviction.

Shuttle Buses

There will be shuttle buses to the venue from Kranji MRT. Each bus can seat 28 persons.

Virtual Cat Board

For those who are unable to attend the event, please check out their virtual cat board here! After the event, please feel free to reach out to Dayne (IG: @purelymeowdayne) if you’d like to bring one of these cats home.

Do note that standard adoption guidelines still applies which includes but not limited to:
1. Cat proofing your home
2. Physical home screening
3. Interviews with the whole family.

Further information on the cattery may be found here.

Fundraiser by Jaded Macarons and the Shelter

Jaded Macarons will be selling their macarons at the adoption drive, and all proceeds will go towards feeding the cats. The shelter will also be selling simple merchandise and canned drinks to fundraise.

Proceeds from the macarons will be channelled back to the cattery cats’ food funds.

Some people may ask why need to raise food funds? Didn’t the cats got fed at cattery? Of course they are fed at the cattery. But a lot of rescuers, especially senior feeders or low income rescuers had not been paying boarding cost, let alone cat food for the longest time. Alison, who has the kindest of heart had been paying for the cat food on her own.

Please adopt if you can. If you cannot, do help by donating to the shelter and helping to spread the word.

All 80+ cats need to be adopted by the end of July.
