Rescue Search Continues
Rescue teams continued to comb through stretches across Gyirong Port on the China-Nepal border, searching for hundreds of people still missing after a powerful mudslide.
Footage from Sunday shows the mud-covered port area on China’s side of the border, with rescue workers and excavators searching through debris.
Death Toll Rises
Chinese authorities said 31 people had been confirmed dead and 531 remained missing as of September 4.
The disaster struck on August 26, after a glacier collapsed on the Nepal side of the border, triggering the mudslide.
Massive Rescue Operation
More than 2,300 rescue personnel have been deployed, while road access to the port was restored, allowing heavy machinery to enter the disaster zone.
Gyirong had become a key land crossing for trade and travel between China and Nepal, particularly after Nepal’s 2015 earthquake damaged an alternative route.
