Hannah Yeoh has confirmed that she and her husband, Ramachandran Muniandy, have divorced after 18 years of marriage, bringing an end to a relationship that began before her rise as one of Malaysia’s prominent political figures.
The divorce was confirmed on Yeoh’s official website, which states that the couple married in January 2008 and divorced in 2026. Her press secretary, Ahmad Fazli Mohd Yadi, also confirmed the news to Sinar Harian on Wednesday, September 2, following reports about the couple’s separation.
Divorce Confirmed
In a brief statement, Ahmad Fazli said the divorce had been confirmed as reported. He did not provide details about when the divorce was finalised or the reasons behind the couple’s decision to end their marriage.
The press secretary also asked for privacy to be given to Yeoh and her family following the development. He said no further information would be released at this time.
Yeoh and Ramachandran have two daughters. Their first daughter, Shay, was born in 2011, followed by Kayleigh in 2013. The couple had largely kept their family life away from the public spotlight while Yeoh built her political career.
From Church Meeting To Marriage
Yeoh and Ramachandran reportedly first met at a church before both became members of the Democratic Action Party (DAP) in 2007. They married a year later, in January 2008.
Their marriage began around the same time Yeoh entered elected politics. She was elected as the Subang Jaya state assemblywoman in 2008 and went on to serve two terms in the Selangor State Legislative Assembly until 2018.
In 2013, Yeoh made political history when she became the first woman to serve as Speaker of the Selangor State Legislative Assembly. Her profile continued to grow nationally, eventually leading to her entry into federal politics.
Yeoh’s Political Career
Yeoh first won the Segambut parliamentary seat in the 2018 general election. Following the election, she was appointed Deputy Women, Family and Community Development Minister, serving in the role until 2020.
She later returned to the federal Cabinet as Youth and Sports Minister in 2022. She held the portfolio until 2025, when she moved to a different government role.
In December 2025, Yeoh was appointed Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department responsible for Federal Territories. She continues to serve as the Member of Parliament for Segambut.
Within DAP, Yeoh also holds several senior party positions. She currently serves as deputy secretary-general and vice-chair, while also sitting on the committee of DAP Wanita.
The confirmation of her divorce comes as Yeoh continues her work in both government and Parliament. No additional details about the divorce have been announced by Yeoh, Ramachandran, or her representatives.
