A Giant Playground For Pets

The Shanghai New International Expo Centre turned into a giant playground for furry friends on Saturday, as Pet Fair Asia 2026 rolled out cutting-edge gadgets, clever care solutions and the latest toys for pampered companions.

Footage shows visitors testing the latest innovations, from AI-powered cat facial-recognition feeders and automated health-tracking litter boxes to premium organic pet food.

Spanning an unprecedented 320,000 square metres, the massive event showcased over 2,600 global exhibitors and attracted 530,000 enthusiastic pet lovers.

Smart Gadgets Steal The Show

Among the quirkier inventions on display was a livestreaming pet bowl, designed to give owners a front-row seat every time their cat stops for a bite or a drink.

“Pet owners love watching pets drink water and eat, so we wondered if we could let us see them while they eat,” said Iva, a brand representative for PurrMello. “We hope that when cats eat, their heads face us, so every time they come over to eat, we can enjoy watching them eat and drink.”

Smarter Ways To Handle Pet Care

Other exhibitors were tackling a less glamorous side of pet ownership, with smart litter systems combining automated cleaning with designs intended to blend into the home.

Bruce Brand, a representative of Geomcat, said the company’s products were built around geometric principles, from the movement of automated cleaning mechanisms to incorporating litter cabinets into domestic interiors.

Shanghai Goes Pet-Friendly

The pet craze also spilled beyond the exhibition halls. Pet Fair Asia partnered with Dianping to launch Shanghai Pet Month, turning more than 100 commercial areas across the city into pet-friendly shopping and leisure destinations.

Running from August 19 to 23, the event put the growing business of pet ownership firmly on display, with global brands competing to win over consumers looking for greater convenience, smarter technology and a little more style for their four-legged companions.
