Light Projections Transform Jinju Fortress
Visitors flocked to Jinju Fortress in the Republic of Korea on Monday night, where colourful projections and immersive media art transformed the historic site into a dazzling nighttime attraction.
Footage shows visitors gathering at the fortress gate to watch animated light projections illuminate its facade, as well as the statue of General Kim Simin, while trees wrapped in blue LED lights and lantern-lit pathways created a vibrant atmosphere around the grounds.
Visitors React to the Nighttime Visual Experience
“I’m from Jinju, so this is my hometown, but it’s been a long time since I last visited,” said visitor Mi Young Kim. “It’s amazing to see the fortress lit up with so many lights, and the media art was really impressive and fascinating.” Visitor Sung Ho Park said the show offered a new way to experience the historic landmark.
“It’s such a wonderful way to enjoy a nighttime walk while taking in the historic site,” he said. “I was really impressed, and it’s definitely something I’ll want to tell people about.” Another visitor, Jae Chul Lee, said the event exceeded his expectations and encouraged more people to experience it.
Event Details and Interactive Visual Programming
Running from August 14 to September 6, the 2026 National Heritage Media Art Jinju Fortress features 12 programmes across Jinju Fortress and nearby Jinju Battle History Park under the theme ‘Gaonnuri, Jinju Fortress Map’.
The event uses large-scale media facades, projection mapping, interactive installations and landscape lighting to reinterpret Jinju’s history and spirit of resistance. The evening programme runs daily from 7:30 pm to 10:30 pm local time (10.30 am to 1.30 pm GMT), blending Jinju’s centuries-old heritage with cutting-edge visual technologies.
