Trump Renames Lake Ontario
US President Donald Trump announced that he was changing the name of Lake Ontario to ‘Lake America’ – following the trade row with Canada – speaking from the White House on Thursday.
“I guess the purpose of this more than anything else is we’re going to be changing the name of Lake Ontario, effective immediately, to Lake America. That’s going to take place right now as I sign the order,” he said.
US-Canada Trade Tensions Escalate
Trump has unveiled 50 per cent tariffs on around $20 billion worth of Canadian goods, while Canada’s Mark Carney confirmed ‘dollar-for-dollar’ retaliatory measures. Trade talks between the sides fell apart in recent weeks.
The US president also changed the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the ‘Gulf of America’ at the start of his second term.
