Recent footage showed a group of locals cleaning up large amounts of waste along East Coast Park near Bayshore. Instead of walking past the mess, residents grabbed trash bags and got to work, picking up bottles, food containers, wrappers, tissues, and takeaway boxes scattered across the beach.

The cleanup comes after large amounts of rubbish were spotted along the shoreline, with plastic bottles appearing across several sections of the beach. The amount of waste quickly turned parts of the usually scenic area into a messy sight.
East Coast’s Trash Problem
East Coast Park is a popular spot for picnics, workouts, weekend hangouts, and just chilling by the sea. With plenty of visitors coming through, rubbish can build up quickly, especially after busy days.
But there may be more to the situation.
One commenter suggested that some of the rubbish could have come from another island and drifted towards the East Coast shoreline. There has been no confirmation of the source, so blaming local beachgoers for all the waste may not tell the full story.

Regardless of where the rubbish came from, plastic waste along the coast can still cause problems. Bottles, food packaging, wrappers, and other debris can be carried into the sea, where the waste can become a danger to marine life.
Locals Said Let’s Clean It Up
Rather than leaving the mess for someone else, the residents decided to start picking it up.
Trash bags were filled with plastic bottles, wrappers, takeaway containers, and other bits of waste. The cleanup made a noticeable difference, with clearer sections of the beach left behind after the effort.
The scene also showed how quickly a small group can make an impact. No major campaign or organized event was needed. A few people, some trash bags, and a little time were enough to clear a significant amount of rubbish.
The cleanup also caught attention online, with the effort serving as a reminder that community action can start with something as simple as picking up a piece of litter.
A Reminder From the Residents
Before wrapping up, the residents reminded parkgoers that keeping public spaces clean is a shared responsibility.
The message was simple. Bottles, food containers, tissues, and wrappers should go into the proper bins instead of being left behind on the beach.

They also encouraged people to take a quick look around before leaving a picnic spot or beach area. Picking up any rubbish left behind can help keep the space clean for the next visitors.
A little more care can go a long way, especially at busy spots like East Coast Park.
