Kind Delivery Rider Sings Birthday Song For Boy Missing His Late Grandfather

As a food delivery rider prepared to sing ‘Happy Birthday’ to a customer’s nephew, a simple food delivery became an unforgettable birthday surprise for the Malaysian. The surprise gesture went viral and drew attention to the unusual request and rider’s response.

Special Request – During Food Delivery

Malaysia’s Najiha (@najihahsyazana) shared the story on Threads. She said she had placed a couple of orders for her nephew Affan for food on her grandmother’s behalf. The order was issued to mark the occasion of Affan’s birthday, which is significant for the family.

As she talked to the delivery rider, Najiha thought about asking him for a small favour. She did not ask to give it to him, but she asked him if he could sing “Happy Birthday” to Affan when he came. It was easy for the request to be turned down, but the rider agreed without hesitation.

The rider then took a video of himself singing the birthday song before giving the order. The surprise came to Affan, who seemed to be amused and smiled while the rider was singing to him. What started out as an ordinary food order had become an unexpected part of the family’s celebration.

This birthday was very special because it’s the same birthday as both of his grandparents. Najiha states that his grandfather Mohammad Nooh bin Ismail was born on 10th August 1963 and his grandmother was born on the same date in 1965.

10 August 2017 is a special date for three generations of the family, as Affan was born on that date. Emotional moments were added to this this year as Affan’s grandfather died on 12 February 2025.

For the second year, the family celebrated Affan’s birthday without his grandfather, who was also his father, this year, Najiha said. In the post she expressed her remembrance of him and requested others to pray for him.

After the surprise birthday, Najiha expressed her gratitude to the delivery rider for taking the time to join in the festivities. She also thanked all those who wished Affan a happy birthday.

In her post, Najiha thanked the rider for helping us sing a birthday song for our nephew and also those who wished Affan a happy birthday.

Later on, she gave a personal message for the rider to the audience of WAKE UP SINGAPORE. Najiha wished him all the best and thanked him once again for creating the birthday moment.

She said that she wishes the same for everyone who had celebrated Affan’s special day.

The interaction has now gone viral, with the birthday song being a small but memorable part of Affan’s birthday celebration. The delivery for the family was not just a delivery of their food order; it was also a time where they were able to share as they recalled a loved one who could not be there to celebrate with them.
