Pets Enter Fashion World

In Indonesia, pet fashion is no longer just a passing trend, it has become an integral part of a luxurious lifestyle.

Leading this movement is Pawstyle, a Bandung-based fashion house that has captivated dog and cat lovers with its elegant, modern, and sophisticated clothing collections for pets.

Footage that captured on Thursday shows a studio photo shoot in South Jakarta for Pawstyle’s haute couture line, showcasing adorable dogs dressed in elaborate outfits reminiscent of wedding gowns. Crafted from premium fabrics and adorned with delicate, hand-sewn embellishments, the collection features gowns and modern kebaya-inspired designs, making it a popular choice for pet owners dressing their furry companions for formal parties, fashion shows, and stylish photoshoots. Three charming dogs can be seen posing alongside their owners, all in coordinating outfits, in preparation for an upcoming pet photography exhibition in Jakarta.

Luxury Designs For Pets

Delighted pet owner Citra Skolastika shared her joy at the experience.

“It’s such a wonderful feeling to see my beloved fur baby wearing a special outfit, just like I am. It makes me feel like we’re perfectly in sync. Moments like these are always exciting for me and my fur baby because I want to capture and preserve as many sweet memories as possible,” she gushed.

Pawstyle’s founder and designer, Alvin Oey, revealed that the brand originated during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2021. Although he had been designing for humans since 2014, shifting to pet fashion opened a new creative avenue that quickly garnered attention.

According to Oey, people’s perceptions of pet fashion have evolved, and he believes that fashion should be accessible to pets as well. However, he emphasises that comfort remains a top priority.

Global Demand Grows

“I design these outfits using fabrics that ensure dogs stay cool and comfortable. The materials adhere to the same safety and comfort standards as those used for children’s clothing,” Oey explained.

He also noted that while the tailored design provides a stylish look, the outfits may not be suitable for extended wear. Therefore, these haute couture pieces are intended for special occasions and formal events.

Pawstyle’s creations have not only attracted local pet lovers but also a growing international clientele. Oey disclosed that a significant portion of his customers are from abroad, including Thailand, Vietnam, and the US, with many opting to place their orders online.

By merging creativity, premium craftsmanship and pet comfort, backed by burgeoning global demand, Pawstyle is demonstrating that Indonesia’s creative pet fashion industry possesses the potential to thrive on the international stage.
