‘Malvinas were felt!’ – Buenos Aires erupts after Argentina beat England 2-1 to reach World Cup final

Buenos Aires Celebrations

Thousands of people celebrated Argentina’s win against England and the Albiceleste reaching the final to defend the World Cup, in Buenos Aires on Wednesday.

Footage shows thousands of fans celebrating, donning Argentine jerseys, scarves and other signs of support, while some were costumed as Messi and Maradona as the team beat England 2-1 after scoring two late goals.

War Memories Resurface

During the celebrations, chants referencing the 1982 Falklands War were heard. Argentine players paraded a banner reading ‘The Malvinas are Argentinian’ as they celebrated their win against England.

“This is pure passion, something that can only be experienced with these people who have suffered, yet who have so much passion and love for everyone, for our culture, and especially for football. Because in today’s match, the Malvinas were felt,” Damian, a fan, said. “South American culture must be respected, we are underestimated far too much,” he added.

Argentina Heads Final

Celeste, another fan, said the victory against England held emotional value beacuse of the war and other tournament matches against England.

“We always wanted to beat them, and now we did. And with Messi leading, who is the greatest,” she said.

Argentina and Spain will face off for the 2026 FIFA World Cup trophy at New York New Jersey Stadium on Sunday.
