Coffee cafes have become popular spots for students and remote workers looking for a comfortable place to study or complete tasks.
Many people like studying or working at cafes because of the vibe. The background noise, coffee smell, and busy atmosphere can actually help some people focus.

But a recent online debate has people asking one thing. Are cafes study spots, or are they just places to chill?
Cafes Are Not Libraries
Many commenters said cafes are not meant to be silent study areas. They believe cafes are made for people to chill, talk, and spend time with friends, not sit in complete silence.

For those who need silence, many suggested choosing libraries instead. The noise and conversations are part of the cafe experience.
The Shushing Debate
The biggest issue came down to people shushing others. Many commenters felt that shushing people in a cafe is not the right move. A cafe is still a shared space, and everyone uses it differently. Some come to study, while others come to hang out and chat.

If the noise gets too much, some prefer putting on earphones or moving seats instead of asking others to be quiet. It is seen as a simple way to enjoy the space without controlling how others use it.
Still, cafe customers also need to know the difference between normal conversations and being too loud. A group conversation that takes over the whole cafe can still become distracting for people nearby.
Finding A Middle Ground
Some commenters think separate zones for study and socialising could help everyone share the space better. In the end, many agreed that cafes can be used for both work and socialising.
The key is knowing that the space is shared.
