Fans Hold Hope
Thousands of Argentine fans packed fan zones across Buenos Aires on Tuesday, watching on giant screens as the Albiceleste pulled off a dramatic 3-2 comeback against Egypt to reach the 2026 World Cup quarter-finals.

Footage shows Scaloneta fans dressed in sky blue and white at the main Fan Fest in Plaza Seeber, in Palermo, riding every twist of a tense match after Mohamed Salah’s Egypt took a two-goal lead.
The early anguish erupted into celebration after Argentina hit back with the goals that sealed qualification.
Messi Sparks Comeback
Lionel Messi sparked the comeback, assisting Cristian Romero’s header before scoring the equaliser off the crossbar, with Enzo Fernandez heading in the stoppage-time winner.
“When [the match] was 2-0 [with Egypt winning] obviously we were scared, but always with faith. Argentina has an extra something that, thank God, other national teams do not have,” said Facundo, one of the fans at the screening.

He also praised Leandro Paredes and Argentina’s defence.
“[Leandro] Paredes should be a starter, Paredes played very well. And then the extra strength of our defence, Lisandro [Martinez] and Cuti [Cristian Romero],” he commented.
Quarter-Final Dreams
With the win, Argentina moved into the quarter-finals and kept alive its hopes of defending the world title, on a day that once again turned Buenos Aires into a mass celebration for the national team.
