Lionsgate announced the news on 23 June via social media with a clip that resembles an old camcorder, showing the numbers “92427” hanging from the trees and the familiar stick figure symbol reminiscent of the original film.

In the caption, the studio revealed that the movie, currently untitled, will be released theatrically on 24 September 2027.

The upcoming film will be helmed by Dylan Clark from a script by Chris Thomas Devlin, with Joshua Leonard and Michael C. Williams, who starred in the original 1999 found-footage hit, serving as executive producers.

The project was previously announced by Lionsgate and Blumhouse in 2024, though its announcement came as a surprise to the original makers, who revealed that they weren’t consulted about it.
