“Should we cycle coast to coast?”

What started as a casual question among friends quickly turned into an eight-hour cycling challenge across Singapore.

A TikTok video posted by @lxinyil has been making rounds online after documenting the group’s coast-to-coast ride from Lakeside to Changi Beach Park.

The video opens with the simple question, “Should we cycle coast to coast?”, before revealing that the friends had little idea what they were getting themselves into.

“We did not know what was ahead of us,” one on-screen caption read.

From Chinese Garden to Changi Beach

The group set off in the evening, reaching Chinese Garden at around 6:20pm before making their way towards Clarke Quay by 8:08pm.

Despite admitting their “butt was hurting”, the cyclists paused to take in the riverside scenery before arriving at their first checkpoint, where people could be seen cheering and clapping as they passed.

A well-earned dinner stop at Lau Pa Sat followed.

The friends tucked into satay skewers, burgers and chicken chop spaghetti before declaring themselves “full and recharged” and “still hopeful” for the journey ahead.

By 10:55pm, they had reached Marina Barrage.

Not long after midnight, however, the mood began to shift.

At East Coast, the cyclists stopped at a vending machine, where new captions appeared on screen: “Butt pain” and “Questioning life choices.”

Choosing The Longer Route

The group arrived at Changi Jurassic Mile at around 12:36am, where they faced a decision.

One option was to visit the dinosaur displays just over 2km away. The other was to continue another 15km to Changi Beach Park.

They chose the longer route.

At around 2am, @lxinyil said in the video, “It’s about 2 a.m. and we still have 4km left, guys.”

Soon after, the group finally reached the end of their challenge.

“Oh my god, I’m at the finger, guys,” she exclaimed while celebrating at the finish point.

Ride statistics shown in the video recorded a distance of 57.88km, an elevation gain of 123m and a moving time of 5 hours and 18 minutes. Including meal and rest stops, the adventure stretched from about 6pm until 2am.

Singaporeans Say They’re Inspired… and Exhausted

Many viewers were impressed by the group’s determination, while others admitted they would probably struggle with a ride of that distance.

One commenter shared that they had completed an even longer cycling loop, travelling from Ang Mo Kio through Sengkang, Punggol, Pasir Ris, Changi, Changi Bay, East Coast, Marina Bay, West Coast, Bukit Brown, Jurong and Bishan before returning home.

Another joked that cycling from their house to Marina Bay Sands already left them exhausted, adding that they could not imagine riding all the way from one coast of Singapore to the other.

Others said the video had motivated them to give long-distance cycling a try. One person laughed that their longest ride so far had only been 16km.

For many viewers, the late-night adventure looked equal parts painful and rewarding—a reminder that some of the best memories begin with an impulsive question among friends.
