Renovation noise is often one of the less glamorous parts of moving into a new home.
But one couple’s thoughtful gesture towards their neighbours has won praise online after they apologised in advance and included a small gift.
On 13 June, Facebook user Patrick Sato Lee shared a photo of a handwritten note and a S$10 voucher he received from his new upstairs neighbours.

“The new neighbors upstairs dropped off a voucher to say sorry for all the noise they made during their renovations,” he wrote.
“Thank you so much for the voucher and for being so considerate about the renovation noise.”
An Apology Delivered with a Voucher
The note left by the neighbours read:
“Hi neighbour,
We are from [ ]
Sorry for the noise that caused during our reno.
Here is a voucher for you.
Thank you for your understanding and see you around!
Sean & Kally =) “

The simple message, paired with the voucher, quickly caught the attention of Facebook users who appreciated the couple’s consideration.
Many Were Touched by the Gesture
Commenters praised the neighbours for going the extra mile to maintain good relations with those living around them.
One person wrote:

“Wow! Such a sweet neighbour!! So considerate!! If only more were like them!!”
Another commented:

“Such considerate neighbours are hard to come by…”
A third added:

“What a lovely couple, so considerate and kind!”
Others Shared Similar Experiences
The post also made its way onto Reddit, where users shared stories of how they introduced themselves to neighbours before starting renovation works.

One Redditor said they distributed halal Chinese New Year snacks to neighbours on their floor, as well as units above and below, before renovations began.
They shared that it was a good way to introduce themselves and start off on the right foot.
Another user recalled that they and their wife gave cakes to neighbours living on the same floor and surrounding levels before commencing renovations.

According to the commenter, it helped them get to know their new neighbours while showing appreciation for their patience.
Building Good Neighbourly Relations
While renovation works are often unavoidable, many online felt that a little consideration can make a big difference.
Instead of frustration over construction noise, the couple’s gesture sparked appreciation and positive conversations among neighbours and strangers alike.
Sometimes, a simple apology note and a small voucher are enough to turn an inconvenience into a warm welcome.
