The Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya Federal Territories Health Department issued a closure order for the Swedish restaurant at IKEA Cheras. The directive requires the premises to remain closed until July 1.

Photographs of the closure notice went viral online, with people questioning hygiene standards and what actually triggered the shutdown.

Health Department Order Under Food Act 1983

The order was issued under the Food Act 1983 to enforce food safety rules.

The notice didn’t list any specific violations. In most cases, these closures come after routine inspections or when fixes are needed.

IKEA Response and Customer Impact

IKEA Malaysia confirmed the temporary closure and said maintenance work is already ongoing to meet hygiene and safety requirements.

The company apologized for the inconvenience and clarified that only the Swedish restaurant is affected.

Other outlets in IKEA Cheras, including the café and bistro, remain open. Retail operations continue as normal.

Customers can still visit Swedish Restaurants at other branches in Damansara, Tebrau, and Batu Kawan.
