One Second She Was There
One second, she was walking her dog. The next, she was gone.
A shocking CCTV clip from Brazil captured the moment a 21-year-old woman suddenly disappeared into a hole after part of a sidewalk collapsed beneath her feet during an evening walk.
Juliana Schiel was strolling along a street in Cuiabá on Sunday night with her dog when a concrete drain cover suddenly gave way. With no warning at all, she dropped straight into the opening as stunned witnesses looked on.
The clip quickly spread online, with many people replaying it just to figure out what had happened.
Dog Refuses To Leave
The dog looked just as shocked as everyone else.
Still attached to the leash, the frightened pup briefly lost its balance before scrambling back onto the pavement. Instead of running off, it stayed near the hole while people rushed over to help.
Video from the scene showed the dog pacing around and looking toward the opening where its owner had disappeared.
Plenty of people in the comments were focused on the dog, saying it never really left the spot after Juliana fell through the drain cover.
Strangers Jump Into Action
People nearby wasted no time.
After seeing Juliana vanish underground, several passersby ran straight to the hole and gathered around the opening. A passing motorist also stopped and joined the rescue effort.
The group worked together to pull the young woman back to safety. Footage showed rescuers carefully lifting her by her arms and legs before finally getting her out. At the same time, another witness stayed with the dog and kept it calm during the rescue.
A Walk She Will Never Forget
Thankfully, Juliana was rescued within minutes and was able to climb out with help from those at the scene.
Some viewers admitted they watched the clip several times because they could not believe someone could disappear that quickly. Others pointed out how dangerous damaged drain covers can be, especially at night when they are harder to notice.
What started as an ordinary walk ended with Juliana being pulled from a hole in the ground while her dog waited above for her.
