#SAVEMUSICSG is a ground-up movement aimed at creating conversations to breathe life back into Singapore’s once vibrant music scene.
Imagine you’re sitting at a bar, sipping an ice-cold pint of beer, and slowly rocking your head back and forth to the mesmerizing guitar solo in Hotel California.
Or imagine you’re with your friends at a club, and the DJ’s transition is just smooth as fuck and your eyes perk up, and your eyes light up, as you recognise the opening notes of the banger that is about to come on.
Music, is magical. As Bob Marley once said, the good thing about music is that, when it hits you, you feel no pain. In those minutes where you are enthralled by the live band, or the DJ on stage, time and worries are suspended. It doesn’t quite matter if you sound like Steven Lim. In that moment, it is just you (and your music), against the whole damn world.
When was the last time you felt that way? Chances are, unless you have been lucky enough to fly overseas, the last occasion you have experienced such euphoria would have been more than 715 days ago.
The Home Stream
Well, tonight, you’ll have the chance to re-live some of those experiences thanks to #SAVEMUSICSG.
Enter, the Home Stream.
The Home Stream is an extraordinary group-up initiative that is spearheaded by Matty Wainright and a suite of other acclaimed DJs and Musicians. It is a 24-hour stream across 6 iconic venues which will feature a staggering 21 DJs. It will run from 5pm to 4am on Friday (11 March 2022) and Saturday (12 March 2022).
The line-up, which features some of the best DJs in the little red dot, promises a little something for everyone’s palette.

The Government’s Ban on Live Music is Ridiculous
The Government’s ban on live music is utterly asinine. Just imagine this, you can get into a train with hundreds of other commuters, go to the gym, attend large-scale business meetings, and go to the cinema BUT you can’t have live music. Make it make sense, please.
The sooner this purposeless ban is lifted, the better it shall be for our nation’s collective mental health.
In an interview with NME, Matty, a founder of #SAVEMUSICSG, has asked for the Government to make its plans clear:
“All we’re asking for is answers and a roadmap back to work: what is the plan? We know that hospitals aren’t being overrun, we know that we have gone past the peak of Omnicron now and we know we have Formula 1 coming up later this year. Let’s discuss and action [sic] the next movements now, as this industry will take months to get back into gear.”
The Member of Parliament for Cheng San-Seletar, Ms Nadia Samdin, also highlighted the need for clear parameters for the industry in her recent budget speech:-
Online Live Streams
In recent years, we have seen many DJs turning to online live-streams during. From DJ Chris’s CCBC that kept us company with top Eurodance hits during the dark days of the Circuit Breaker, to Mr J and Vira Suria’s nostalgic EMOKIDSANTHEM every Wednesday night at 9.30pm on Tik Tok, many have found solace in the closest thing we can get to live music.

Besides the music, what we also miss is the community that finds it way together as a result of this music. From Trance Nights at CANVAS to Hip Hop Nights at Fleek, bumping into like-minded people who are all rocking along to the same beat, is a beautiful experience. We experienced the same thing too, when we tuned in to Mr J’s live-stream. We were given a warm welcome, and we also saw for ourselves how Mr J’s stream created a safe space for so many people to share and partake in this shared experience. We were also lucky enough to watch Mr J cross the 10,000 follower mark, which all of us celebrated together.
