An dramatic morning on a Malaysian highway ended in panic after a reckless driver crashed into several vehicles before being cornered by heroic members of the public.

The dangerous incident unfolded along the North-South Expressway in Penang. Police received a distress call at around 10:05 am on June 8 regarding a red Mitsubishi Triton pickup truck being driven in an incredibly erratic manner.
A Trail of Destruction
Witnesses stated that the 29-year-old driver was speeding dangerously from Sungai Dua towards Penang. The heavy vehicle swerved across lanes and smashed into multiple cars, creating a terrifying scene for regular commuters on the road.

Instead of stopping, the suspect continued his wild drive, dragging a damaged bumper behind him.
The chaotic chase finally came to an end on the Butterworth-Kulim Expressway (BKE). Brave citizens took matters into their own hands, blocking the path of the pickup truck in front of a Caltex petrol station in Seberang Jaya.
The public successfully restrained the suspect until police officers arrived at the scene.
Hidden Drugs Found
Following the arrest, authorities searched the suspect and discovered a sling bag worn across his body. Inside the bag, officers found two transparent plastic packets containing illegal substances.
One packet held 0.75 grams of a crystal-like substance believed to be methamphetamine. The second packet contained 2.38 grams of white granules suspected to be ketamine.

A subsequent urine test performed on the driver came back positive for both methamphetamine and morphine. Further background checks revealed the suspect is a repeat offender, with 15 previous drug-related records and two criminal records.
Facing Severe Charges
Seberang Perai Tengah district police chief ACP Nik Aminuddin Raja Abdullah confirmed that the suspect is being investigated under Section 12(3) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
Additionally, the traffic division is investigating the crash under Section 44(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which covers driving under the influence of drugs and causing an accident.

The suspect is scheduled to appear at the Bukit Mertajam Magistrate’s Court for a remand application. Meanwhile, local police are actively looking for independent witnesses and other victims to assist with the ongoing investigation.
