Among the hundreds of wish tablets hanging at Japan’s Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine, one message managed to catch the internet’s attention.

Written by someone named Emmett, the wish was simple: he wanted to get into Raffles Institution through his PSLE.

Many Singaporeans were able to instantly connect with this moment. The wish was common among many students and parents—securing a favourable PSLE score and admission to one of the country’s top schools.

The Spelling Mistake Nobody Could Ignore

Reddit users quickly noticed that “Raffles” had originally been misspelt before being corrected.

Even funnier, many pointed out that the corrected word appeared to be written in a different handwriting.

While the comments were playful, many people found the image surprisingly heartwarming.

Why Raffles Institution and PSLE

The Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE) is one of Singapore’s most significant academic milestones. Taken at the end of primary school, it determines the secondary school pathways available to students.

Whereas Raffles Institution is one of the most competitive and popular schools in Singapore. The school’s academic reputation, history and achievements are appealing to many students who wish to join the school.

Everyone Is Rooting For Emmett

Beyond the jokes, many commenters left wholesome messages for Emmett.

Some reminded Emmett that every school can offer opportunities. Others shared stories about how life rarely follows the path people expect at age twelve. Some wrote positive comments and wished him the best of luck in his future studies.
